Where would you like to go?

It is up to you! You can:

a) select one of the cities in the list or
b) accept a placement in any of these cities (which is a bit cheaper: see prices here)

To help you make up your mind see the city portraits below. General info about the GLS high school program please find here

1. Bayreuth

Why we like Bayreuth: Richard Wagner Festspiele, Bavarian food: Sauerkraut & Bratwurst, music and culture, great nature, fantastic outdoor opportunities for exchange students, e.g. horseback riding, sailing, fencing, soccer

Bayreuth is a smaller town in the North of Bavaria. Bayreuth is a great place for anyone interested in music and high culture. Throughout the world Bayreuth is known for its music festival, opera house and theater. The warmhearted Franconian people will make you feel at home immediately.

2. Berlin

3. Bremen

4. Hamburg

Warum wir Hamburg mögen: Hamburger Hafen, Alster, Elbe, Elbphilharmonie, Landungsbrücken, Fischmarkt

Hamburg is a Hanseatic city and as city state also a state of Germany. It is the second biggest German city, only topped by the capital Berlin. If you want to live by the sea, experience the diversity of a big city and would like to enjoy the proper Nordic German kitchen, then Hamburg is the perfect spot for you.

5. Koblenz

Warum wir Koblenz mögen: Weinanbau, Deutsches Eck, Esskastanien (Maronen), Rheinischer Sauerbraten

Koblenz is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Its green wine-growing hills and the two beautiful rivers Rhine and Moselle are forming the shape of the town. Some parts of the city even belong to the UNESCO world heritage. Here you can enjoy the advantages of a smaller city combined with the beauty of nature.

6. Lübeck

Warum wir Lübeck mögen: UNESCO Welterbe, Kultur, Marzipan, Lübecker Weihnachtsmarkt, Buddenbrooks, home of Thomas Mann

Lübeck is situated by the Baltic Sea and is the biggest city of the state Schleswig-Holstein. The Hanseatic town is regarded as the “Gate to the North” and is located in the North German plain. The Baltic bath Travemünde is only 20km away and offers beach with promenade and unique beach chairs. Here you can enjoy the summer next to the beach.

7. Minden

Why we like Minden: Mindener Dom, Wasserstraßenkreuz, Kabarett, Westfälischer Schinken, Pumpernickel

Minden is a smaller town in North Rhine-Westphalia, located nearby several big metropolitan cities. Minden has a charming inner city with various historical buildings such as the Cathedral of St. Gorgonius and the Museum of Prussia. Moreover, Minden has beautiful natural surroundings and is located on the river Weser. This city is the perfect choice if you want to experience a contemplative life in a proper German town.

8. Nürnberg

Warum wir Nürnberg mögen: Kaiserburg, Frauenkirche, Bratwurst, Fußballclub 1.FC Nürnberg, Christkindlesmarkt, Lebkuchen

Nuremberg is perfect for you if you like living in a big city but also appreciate coziness. In Nuremberg you can find various cultural events, flea markets, open air pools, beer gardens, parks and historical memorials. The unique mixture of tradition, history and the friendliness of the Franconian people makes this city an amazing experience.
