The Good & the Bad - what did you like best? What least?

I did not like my accomodation, it was not legal (the landlord did not know of the subtenants) and my host was domineering. The school facilities were very nice though, and I feel like my time there dramatically improved my German language skills. The teachers were all very friendly and good communicators. The after school activities were good, and I liked the topic specific ones and the conversational ones. I felt like the homework load was light, but I came to regard that as a good thing as it allowed more time for interactive activities and German practice.

Your recommendations for other students

Take the intensive course, it's another hour and a half of directed exercises directed by a knowledgeable linguist, which is not only valuable time itself, but will be even more valuable because the class will have fewer students, allowing each student to get more out of it.

Be polite, but be loud: speaking up in class get's you practice and more importantly, correction from the instructor to help you figure out what you're doing wrong and give you confidence about what you're doing right.

Practice like it's your job! As soon as you can make German your default language and don't let anyone speak to you in another language unless it's clearly necessary, then do everything in German. Be as friendly and as chatty as you can be with everyone you meet, then when you can't stand that anymore do your homework and watch some movies in German, or read a German book. The language school is excellent, but the main feature they provide is an atmosphere conducive to the massive amounts of practice needed by a language learner.
